Tonight, we can announce that Stephen Rennie has extended his contract with us to the end of next season.
The 25-year-old left back returned to the team for our 3-0 home win over Wick Academy at the start of November and has retained his place in the starting eleven, playing every minute of the seven games since, bringing him up to a total of 10 appearances for the club.
Stephen forms an important part of Steven Mackay’s plans moving forward and we are all pleased to see him agree to a second season at Station Park. The manager said: “Stephen came into the team when we played Wick at home back in early November and has played every game since.
“He has performed very consistently at left back and his performances have contributed to the recent unbeaten run that we are on.
“We believe that he is only going to improve as a player as he has an excellent attitude and is always willing to listen and learn.”
Stephen joined us on trial in August, having spent the summer trialling at Brora Rangers.
He played in home matches against Deveronvale and Fraserburgh as a trialist, before signing a short-term deal until the end of the season ahead of the Scottish Cup match against Drumchapel United.
He had to be patient for his chance having been an unused substitute for Steven Mackay’s first five matches in charge before returning to the team on November 2nd and cementing his place.
Stephen came through the youth ranks at Inverness CT before joining Rothes for two seasons in 2016. He was then transferred to Strathspey Thistle in 2018, where he spent the following four years before moving on from Seafield Park in the summer after spending the second half of last season on loan at Inverness Athletic in the North Caledonian League.
