EW Nairn County striker Gussie Dey wants to get bums off seats at Station Park with the front man hoping to excite fans by banging in the goals. The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season having trained with the squad over the last few weeks as well as featuring from the bench as a trialist in the home draw with Rothes and the 5-1 victory over Huntly at Station Park last weekend. He said: “I am very excited to be signing and I am looking forward to the new challenge. There is a good togetherness in the squad and everyone has been so welcoming." “I always like to play forward and try to score and create goals. I am quite a versatile player who can play as a striker or in a wider position and I think I can add something different to the team." “I am a team player and will always give my best for the team and I hope to bring some excitement to the fans and help Nairn get as many points as possible." “I am grateful to Ronnie for giving me this chance and I am aiming to play as many games as I can to help contribute to what will hopefully be a successful season for Nairn.” Manager Ronnie Sharp said: “It is no secret that we have been looking to strengthen the squad, especially in the attacking areas and when we heard Gussie was available, we moved to get him along to see how he fitted in with the squad and if signing on with us was what he wanted to do." “We have tried various combinations in attack this season with several players playing out of position at times to fill the central striker’s role. Gussie is a player who can play up there, so bringing him in gives us another option and it frees up other players to play in their stronger positions.” He added: “Gussie has done well for us in training and the games he has played in and has settled in really well. We still need to work with him to get him up to speed with his match fitness and it has been a while since he has had a run of games at this sort of level. But it is a good signing for us to bring in a player of this calibre and although he still has many years in football ahead of him, he brings good experience to the squad having played in the Lowland League for a few seasons. That will stand him in good stead stepping into the Highland League and I am sure he will do well for us.” Dey started out with Inverness CT as a youngster before playing with Clachnacuddin for a short spell. His studies in PE Teaching took him to Stirling University, where he played in the Lowland League with the university’s team for four seasons. He also featured in the Inverness Amateur League while home during the summer break and guested for Buckie Thistle as a trialist on a handful of occasions last season before having a trial period with Clach during the summer just past. But it is County who have managed to secure the forward’s signature and he will go straight into the squad for a full debut when Turriff United come to Station Park tomorrow.
