LES Fridge said in the wake of the weekend's cup semi final loss at Wick Academy that Nairn County would have a say in where the Highland League championship ended up and his players did not take long to prove their manager correct, writes Graeme Macleod. This emphatic win over Turriff United leaves the Haughs club's hopes of a maiden title all but over as they were convincingly defeated at Station Park. County were in front 10 minutes in as Sean Webb smashed home a Robbie Duncanson cross on the volley finding the top corner of the net from 15 yards. Although the hosts rode their luck with Turriff striking the woodwork a total of three times it quick succession, it was Nairn who found the second goal to put them in firm control. This time it was Alan Pollock with the cross into the box which was met by a John Cameron header that found the net via the inside of the post. Visiting goalkeeper Kevin Main then made a fine save to prevent Cameron from scoring his second of the night as he diverted the forward's shot over the crossbar. Nairn looked comfortable throughout the second half and would have added to their tally made Main not made a fine diving save to his right to keep out Michael Morrison's header. County made the points save 11 minutes from time though when Conor Gethins drove home substitute Sam Urquhart's cross in from the left. And Gethins added his second of the night on 88 minutes by despatching a cool finish over the sprawling body of the advancing Main. Indeed, it could have been even more for Nairn but again Main denied Cameron as the goalkeeper spread himself well to keep out the Nairn attacker's shot as he raced in on goal. Graeme Macleod
