Match Report by Niamh Cowdrey
Following their weekend win away at Turriff, County unfortunately lost in a frenetic match last night against table-topping Brora Rangers.
Hoping to extend their run to a hat-trick of wins, County started the game defensively but were quickly undone by an early goal.
The first goal of the night was scored by Brora Rangers’ number 11, James Wallace, in the 5th minute. The ball crossed from the right side of the box, and met Wallace at the near post to score an early lead for the Cattachs.
Despite this, Nairn put up a strong fight. With common breaks from Brora press, County made frequent runs into the Brora Rangers half to strive for a response to the early goals.
Brora scored again in the 11th minute, this time a goal by Tony Dingwall. The ball was parried by the Dylan Maclean, resulting in another tap in at the far post.
Nairn County pulled a goal back in the 23rd minute, with a crisp volley from Ben Barron. Following a corner, the ball was crossed to the left side of the box, where it met Barron at the perfect position to score.
There were equal chances at both ends, with both teams having opportunities that made the stand gasp and groan in disappointment or relief.
A third goal for Brora Rangers came in the 55th minute, with a goal from Max Ewan. He cut inside from the right and bent one into the bottom left corner.
Brora then added a fourth in the 63rd minute, courtesy of a goalmouth scramble with Michael Finnis getting the final touch.
The final goal of the night, and a second goal for Tony Dingwall, was scored in the 68th minute. Once again, a shot from the right side of the box met the left corner of the net.
Nairn showed their team strength in the final 15 minutes, when they were down to ten men after Angus Dey went off with an injury. Their steady performance continued, defending well and making runs into the Brora Rangers half. Though, unfortunately, the final whistle indicated that the game would result in the Cattach’s taking all three points.
County next play away at Mosset Park, against local rivals Forres Mechanics, on Saturday, August 31st at 3pm.
