Nairn County FC have today regrettably agreed to release captain Michael Morrison from the final year of his contract by mutual consent. The 36-year-old joined the club from Buckie Thistle in November 2011 and ahead of his first full season at the club, he was appointed captain replacing the departing David Hind. That season, he skippered the side to the North of Scotland Cup with a 2-1 extra-time win over Wick Academy, making him the last Nairn County captain to lift a trophy. He also wore the armband as County made great strides to the third round of the Scottish Cup the same season, which included thrilling ties against Clyde and Forfar Athletic. Probably Morrison's finest individual moment in a Nairn jersey came the following season, as he flicked home the winning goal at home against Clachnacuddin deep, deep into injury time to spark jubilant scenes of celebration as County recorded a 3-2 victory having approached the 90-minute mark trailing by two goals to one. Interim chairman Donald Matheson said: "I would like to thank "Mo" on behalf of the club for all of his efforts in a County shirt. He proved himself to be a real leader during his time with the club and is among the best players I have seen during my involvement at Station Park. I would like to wish him well for the rest of his career in football." Morrison leaves the club having made 146 appearances in all competitions, scoring 19 goals. A previous career with Elgin City, Lossiemouth, Forres Mechanics, Cove Rangers, Huntly, Inverurie Loco Works and Buckie Thistle saw Morrison establish himself as a Highland League great, winning all medals available to players at this level. He leaves Nairn County with the thanks and sincere best wishes of everyone at the club for whatever he decides to do in the future and can be assured that he will always receive a warm welcome should he ever return to Station Park as an opponent or a spectator.
