Nairn County took a trip up the A96 to Grant Street Park last Wednesday. A sublime goal by Matthew Wright and an own goal proved too much for the Lilywhite’s to recover from. The 2-0 victory was Nairn’s first victory of the season and notably the first of the Ross Tokely era.
After the match Ross Tokely shared his thoughts on the game:
“I thought it was a really good reaction from Saturday, I thought tonight we were excellent and really deserved to win. Everybody put in a great shift. It’s my first victory as well and I hope there’s many more to come”
When asked on what made the difference in the performances between the match with Brechin and Clach, he stated:
“We had a good training session on Monday and had a chat about things, while it has been a tough pre-season. Overall there is a lot of good quality in this team”
The 2-0 win was also The Wee County’s first clean sheet of the season, Ross Tokely highlighted this in particular saying:
“Defensively we also did very well, especially in the second half dealing with the pace that Clach got, as well as Dylan MacLean making sure no goals were conceded. I couldn’t of asked for much more from this performance and that accounts for everybody”
This Saturday Nairn travel on the A96 again (although in the other direction) to face Banks O’ Dee. The club hailing from the Granite City finished 4th last season and may be a tough encounter. Ross Tokely shared his thoughts ahead of the match:
“While it will be a difficult game, it will also be a good challenge for us and hopefully we will build a bit of momentum after tonight’s match. I played there last year and they are a good side and so we need to produce a good performance.”
