CLUB captain Gregg Main has signed new contract, keeping him at Station Park until the summer of 2020. The 31-year-old penned the deal at Station Park yesterday and is now tied to the club for the next two-and-a-half years. Main – who has missed this season because of a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury – has been working hard on his rehabilitation and is itching to pull on the yellow jersey again, having not yet led out the team despite being named captain in the summer. Main said: “It is an easy decision to stay. I have said it before but playing for your home town club is what Highland League football should be about. The club has been good to me down the years and they have been great with helping me through my injury. I am delighted with the faith they have shown in me and all of the support that everyone has given and I am determined to repay them all by getting back to my best in time for next season. “It has been really frustrating to sit out this season. I have been up in the stands for most games keeping the press right! That means sitting behind the away committee, which is always interesting. I have also spent time in the dugout which is very stressful to say the least. But most of all, I want to just get back out there on the park because being named captain of the club in the summer has made even more eager to return to playing and lead the team out, which will be a great honour.” Main is due to visit his surgeon again this month after receiving good news on his first follow-up visit in January. He revealed: “When I was down in Glasgow to see the surgeon he was happy with my progress and feels I am ahead of schedule. I have been working hard in the gym, swimming pool and out on my bike for my rehab and the club has put me to the physio as well. I am hoping to be able to begin some light running soon and that will be another step on the road to recovery.” Manager Ronnie Sharp said: “It is great to have Gregg tied up for the next two-and-a-half years. We are looking to build on what we have at the club and a big part of that is keeping our top players here over the next few years and Gregg certainly falls into that category. “He has been missed this season on the park but he is still there behind-the-scenes supporting the team. He has kept his spirits up despite being out of football for so long and we are looking forward to seeing him back on the pitch next season. He has thrown himself into his rehab and you can see how much it means to him to play for and captain the club.” Main debuted for Nairn on March 17th 2004 against Inverness CT in the North of Scotland Cup.
