GOALS either side of half time from Max Ewan and Tom Maclennan saw Nairn County take all three points from a wet in wild night at Fort William. The strong wind swept across the narrow and heavy exposed pitch throughout the 90 minutes, making conditions heavy but the visitors got there in the end thanks to Ewan’s opener before Maclennan scored on his debut with a wind-assisted free kick. Manager Ronnie Sharp was pleased to come away with all three points. “The only plus point of the night was the win,” he said. “It was a stormy, stormy night on a very tricky pitch, which was not the widest I have ever seen. We got the three points although we missed a lot of chances but we knew it was not going to be easy coming down here on a Wednesday night. It is a long way to travel and a lot of boys had to come straight from work but the main thing was to get the three points and we have done that.” Ewan’s strike saw him net his fourth goal of his debut season on what was also his first start for the club. Sharp added: “That is Max on two goals in two games now, which will do him good. It was a hard night for everybody though. Nobody really shone tonight but we have added three points to the tally and kept a clean sheet.” Maclennan made sure of all three points shortly after half time when his free kick into the box from out on the left hung up in the wind and dropped in at the near post. “I thought Tom did well enough,” Sharp stated. “He was unlucky not to score another one straight after his goal when he hit the underside of the crossbar. We just came down here and looked to get the three points and Tom’s goal helped us do that.” Dylan Mackenzie was taken off 20 minutes from the end after receiving a nasty gash in an aerial challenge. “Dylan has a nasty cut on the inside of mouth but hopefully he will be alright for Saturday,” Sharp commented.
