We are delighted to announce the signing of defender Brodie Watson from Inverness Athletic.
The versatile 21-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with us and will now spend this season on loan at his former club in the North Caledonian League as part of the deal.
Brodie is predominantly a centre half but can also play across the backline or in the middle of the park. He has made 39 appearances for Inverness Athletic in the North Caledonian League so far having previously turned out for their Under-20s and Inverness Amateur League teams.
Manager Ross Tokely explained the setup of the deal. He said: “Brodie is in the final year of his plumbing apprenticeship, which means he is away for work a lot through the week and would miss a lot of training with us. When we spoke to Inverness Athletic, it made sense for him to remain with them while this still remained an issue but once he is fully qualified, we will look forward to him joining up with us properly.
“He will still train with us this season when he is available to, which will help him to integrate into the squad and get him up to speed so he can hit the ground running this time next year.”
He added: “I played against Brodie before and I have always been impressed by what I have seen from him. He was with Inverness CT when he was a youngster and has then progressed through at Inverness Athletic, where he has had a good grounding and played a lot of adult football at various levels for someone who is still only 21.
“He is a strong and aggressive player, who is good on the ball as well. He has had a similar background to Fraser Dingwall, who grew and developed with regular football in the North Caledonian League before stepping up the Highland League at a similar age to what Brodie is now, so hopefully Brodie can make a similar impact with us. We are all looking forward to working with him and welcoming him into the squad.”
Brodie has made 39 appearances for Inverness Athletic in the North Caledonian League, scoring twice including a goal in last season’s Football Times Cup final. He will join Inverness Athletic on loan in time for the start of their season on August 17th when they visit Fort William.
