During early September our stalwart Supporters carried a specially made baton, to celebrate the club's centenary and to raise funds for Ground Improvements, over the West Highland Way and to successfully completed the journey in Ft. William. The baton was duly handed over to the Nairn Kayak Club who then paddled it all the way, through the Caledonian Canal and the Moray Firth to Nairn. In association with the Nairn Kayakers a team of 4 very fit guys decided to challenge the world record, set some time ago, between Ft. Augustus and Dores. This is a distance of approximately 20 miles and the record stood at well over 5 hours. This team set out two and a half hours after the Kayak Club, passed them at Castle Urquhart (approximately two thirds of the way) and crossed the finishing line at Dores in 3 hours 42 minutes! An amazing achievement smashing the old record. Using my boat we managed, in addition to the two marshalls/timekeepers, to convey the photographer Brian Smith from Jasper Image (www.jasperimage.co.uk) and Ross Maclean from SHFLtv, who has often videoed some of our games. Brian has kindly sent a montage of some of his excellent pictures and they can be viewed below. Ross will compile a video of the event but awaits its use by broadcasters first. The Club is really appreciative of everyone's efforts with this excellent fund raising venture a BIG 'Thanks' to all involved. Robert Manson
