Tonight we can announce the signing of Andrew Greig from Formartine United.

The two-time Highland League winner joins us on a two-and-a-half year deal until the summer of 2024.

Andrew came through the youth team at Inverness CT before joining Brora Rangers in 2012, where he won the Highland League championship in back-to-back seasons in 2014 and 2015, the second success being an unbeaten campaign for the Cattachs.

The 28-year-old also won three North of Scotland Cups at Dudgeon Park and topped off his time there by being named the Highland League Young Player of the Year in 2013 before following that up with the Highland League Player of the Year award 12 months later, to ensure that he goes down as one of Brora’s best ever players.

He moved on to Formartine United in November 2017 where the success continued as he won the Highland League Cup in his first season at North Lodge before following that up by lifting the Aberdeenshire Shield the following year.

In all, he made 111 appearances for the Pitmedden side.

Andrew said:

“I am delighted to have taken this next step in my career to join Nairn County and I am really looking forward to the challenge.

“There is great potential at the club and I am excited to get started. There is already some top players here and a lot of young players too. The club is ambitious to move up the league table and hopefully I can help them to do that.

“I really enjoyed my time at Formartine and it is a great club. I would like to thank everybody there and all my ex-teammates too for the way I was treated and wish them all the very best for the future.

“I am now looking forward to meeting all the boys here at Nairn and getting to know everyone with the aim of bringing some good times to the club.”

Manager Ronnie Sharp said:

“We are all delighted to bring Andrew to the club. He is a top, top player not just at Highland League level but as someone who could play further up the league pyramid.

“I have watched Andrew play numerous times over the years and he has always caused us great problems every time he has played against us. He’s a talented player who is quick and skilful and I am sure he will be a huge asset.

“He also brings a winning mentality too – he is a player who is used to winning almost every match in the Highland League and it is something which will have been drummed into him from a young age when he started out at Brora. That is the sort of mentality we want to encourage among the squad and bringing in a player of his calibre and track record helps us to achieve that.”

Director of Football Graeme Macleod said:

“I think Andrew’s CV speaks for itself – he has won seven trophies in his Highland League career as well as two individual honours, so we are delighted to bring him to Nairn.

“He is the sort of signing who lifts the entire club and I am sure we will see the players raise their game by an extra five percent from having a player like Andrew alongside them in the squad.

“We heard last week that Andrew might be available, so we made the necessary enquiries. Understandably, we faced some stiff competition for his signature but I personally am delighted that he has chosen to join us.

“Formartine United have been fantastic to deal with throughout the whole process and I would like to record my thanks to Sandy Sinclair, who represents his club with real class.

“It is a great boost for us to be able add a player of this quality to the squad and I am excited about the prospect of the peak years of Andrew Greig’s career coming in a Nairn County shirt.”

Andrew is in contention to debut against his former club Brora Rangers tomorrow at Station Park. To sponsor Andrew, email info@nairncountyfc.co.uk or drop us a message on Facebook.
