TEN-MAN Nairn County rounded off the 2014/15 Highlandv League season with a win at Strathspey Thistle to leapfrog Forres Mechanics in the final standings, writes Graeme Macleod.
Everything appeared to be going to plan for the visitors as they took the lead five minutes in. Conor Gethins shrugged off his marker to latch on to a long ball forward and lash a low effort across Strathspey goalkeeper Stevie Dunn and into the far corner of the net.
But Scott Hume bundled home a low cross from the right to equalise on 18 minutes and then Paul Macleod was dismissed for the visitors on 22 minutes for a late tackle of Mark McKernie.
Despite playing three-quarters of the match with 10 men, County had the best of the chances with Sam Urquhart firing a low effort across goal and wide of the post before the same player was thwarted by a goalmouth scramble on the goal line before Martin MacDonald struck the post, all in the second half.
County's luck appeared to be out but when they received a break in the final third, they took full advantage to secure the points. Gregg Main drove at the heart of the Strathspey defence and when his shot was parried straight to Robbie Duncanson, the striker stroked home from just inside the box to win the match.
