YOUNG Nairn County starlets Joe Cuthbert and Seamus McConaghy have both committed their long-term futures to the club by signing new contracts. The 18-year-old duo signed their first professional contracts at training last night having done enough to convince manager Ronnie Sharp to make them permanent members of the first team squad by awarding them deals to 2021. Both players have come through the club’s youth development programme and featured in the Highland League this season. Sharp said: “We are delighted to secure these two young players on professional contracts. They have both done well for our under-20s over the last year-and-a-half and earned the chance to come up to the first team." “They have been training with the first team squad for almost a year now on and off and have been permanently with us since the start of pre-season training. They have both made their Highland League debuts and not looked overawed when they have come off the bench. The next target for them both is to make their first start and to then become regulars in the team.” Cuthbert made his debut from the bench in the 4-0 home win over Fort William on October 6th, his only competitive appearance for the club to date. He is captain of the under-20s team. McConaghy won the Under-20s Players’ Player of the Year award last season and made his first team debut in the 2-1 home defeat to Formartine United on March 17th. He has made 10 appearances for the club and scored his first senior goal in the 5-1 home win over Huntly on September 8th. Graeme Macleod
