We are delighted to announce that Stephen Rennie has joined the club on a deal until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old left back featured in two matches as a trialist and has now done enough to earn a contract with the club.

Manager Ronnie Sharp said: “Stephen has been training with us for the last couple of weeks and we have taken a good look him there and in a couple of games as a trialist.

“We have been struggling with injuries to left-sided defenders with Kenny McKenzie and Calum Howarth both having had set backs after playing a couple of games at the start of the season, which has meant we needed to get someone in to give us cover in that area.

“Stephen will provide us with that. He is an energetic and dynamic full back who can bring qualities to us from both a defensive and attacking perspective and I am sure he will be a positive addition to the squad.

“We have been down on numbers lately with eight players from our 22-man squad on the injury list but bringing Stephen on board helps us with that. He has been injured himself having picked up a calf knock playing for us in our match against Fraserburgh but he is over that now, so we are delighted to have him join us.”

Director of Football, Graeme Macleod, added: “Stephen is someone who has been on our radar for a long time – he first came to our attentions about five-and-a-half years ago, when I seen him playing for Inverness CT’s under-20s team.

“He opted to go to Rothes at that point after he was released by Inverness. It probably did not work out there as Stephen might have imagined and he has had a couple of moves since then but this is an opportunity for Stephen to come in, show what he can do and establish himself. There is no doubting his ability and he is really eager to do well for the club.

“Stephen trialled at Brora in the summer and I believe he was pretty close to earning a deal there but for whatever reason, it did not happen. That is now our gain and we are all delighted that he has agreed to come to Nairn County.”

Stephen spent eight years coming through the Inverness CT youth academy, which included loan spells at Fort William and Rothes. He joined the Speysiders permanently in 2017 and then completed a transfer to Strathspey Thistle a year later.

He spent four years with the Grantown club, which concluded with a loan spell at North Caledonian League club, Inverness Athletic at the end of last season.

After featuring as a trialist for Brora Rangers in pre-season and their opening three league fixtures, Stephen then trialled with us and played in our home fixtures against Deveronvale and Fraserburgh.
