Match Report by Niamh Cowdrey

County shared the points this weekend with our local rivals Clachnacuddin at a chilly station park, with two solid goals from Ben Barron.

The game opened with an early opportunity for Clach’s Lawrie, who scored in the third minute after the ball was parried into his feet. This was subsequently called offside.

Nairn began to pick up the pace, as opportunities came in quick succession – including a shot by Sam Gordon in the 9th minute that went just wide of the near post.

Clach’s first goal came from a goalmouth scramble after a freekick. The ball landed to Cormack, who just beat the keeper at the far post to score the opening goal.

Ben Barron’s first came just a few minutes later, with a chip to the left side of the goal in the 36th minute to equalise for the Wee County.

Lewis Munro made a terrific save at point blank range in injury time after a shot from MacRae, pushing it over the bar at the stroke of half time.

County soon returned to the pitch for the second half, clearly determined to score another.

Munro left his line to block a shot from a 1v1, and the resulting corner was skillfully blocked three times in quick succession by County defenders.

Barron’s second came in the 70th minute, with a header to the right side of the net following a great play down the right, courtesy of Andrew Greig.

Clach equalised in the 90th minute, with a tap-in from captain James Anderson to the bottom right corner, and our fourth meeting with Clachnacuddin in all competitions this season was declared a draw.

Nairn County will next play at home against Banks O’ Dee on Saturday, December 21st 2024 at Station Park; our last home game of 2024.
