BREEDON HIGHLAND LEAGUE
NAIRN COUNTY 2 – 0 WICK ACADEMY
SATURDAY 28TH OCTOBER 2023
STATION PARK, NAIRN

Goalscorers: George Robeston (56), Ciaran Young (89)

County maintained their recent run of results following a 2-0 victory over Wick Academy at Station Park. Two second half efforts from George Robesten and Ciaran Young secured the points to ensure the home side continue to club the Highland League table.

Youngster Aaron Nicolson was lively during the opening stages, almost netting his first goal for the club, however, his well struck effort beat the keeper but found the side netting.

The home side continued to hold the upper hand, and Robesten went close with a well struck effort that carried just past the far post. The visitors responded and a snap-shot from Henderson was well held by Dyland Maclean midway through the first period.

Nicolson continued to pose problems for the visitors defence as County continued to probe for the opener. Minutes later, Robesten headed narrowly past following an Ally Gillies cross.

Ten minutes from the interval, a teasing cross from Robesten down the left, saw Aaron Nicolson knock his effort over the bar with the keeper looking on stranded.

Three minutes later, a superb cross from full back Jamie Carnihan beat the keeper, but drifted wide of the far post with no takers as the home side maintained the pressure.

However, eleven minutes into the second period, the deadlock was finally broken in some style. George Robesten picked up a clearance before rounding a defender and lashing home a superb drive for the opener.

The Station Park side continued to push forward at every opportunity with efforts from Ciaran Young, Andrew MacLeod and George Robesten all going close to adding to their tally.

The home side finally made the points safe in injury time, when Ciaran Young swept home their second, after substitute Angus Dey had set him up with a fine pass after winning the ball in midfield.

Another excellent result for the Wee County who continue to climb the table. Next up for them is a home encounter against Turriff United next Saturday.
