GREGG Main has signed a new contract with Nairn County and will receive a Testimonial Season as part of his fresh terms. The 30-year-old midfielder had the chance to leave the club both this summer and last but has turned down financially-rewarding offers elsewhere to be at the forefront of his home town club's forthcoming Highland League campaign. Main said: "Hopefully this will put all of the rumours to bed and allow me to concentrate on getting fully fit again and working towards the new season." "I never really thought too much about leaving because the prospect did not sit well with me and it would not have felt right. I listened to what other clubs had to say out of courtesy and I thank them for their interest but the bottom line is I could never see myself coming back here to Station Park as an opposition player for another Highland League club." "For me, Highland League football is not about playing for money – it is about enjoying football with the friends you grew up with and the rest of your team mates. Yes, I might have had a better chance of winning things this season at another club but it would not have felt the same and I would not have enjoyed it as much as I do playing here for County. I am a Nairn boy and all I ever wanted to do growing up was play for the club – I am not going to walk away from that." He added: "The club are on to a good thing with Sharpie (Ronnie Sharp) in charge and the way he is taking things forward. I have spoken to him about his plans for the future and over the next few years, there is no reason why we cannot get back to where we were before all of the challenges of the last 12 months." "The new players he has brought in have all looked quality in training and I am looking forward to playing alongside them all this season. Everyone at the club is ambitious and enthusiastic about the future and I am want to be a part of that." Main debuted for the club as a substitute against Inverness CT in the North of Scotland Cup on March 17th 2004. He spent the 2005/06 season on loan at Nairn St Ninian and returned to make his first start in a Nairn shirt in the 1-0 home win over Huntly on October 14th 2006. So far, he has lifted two North of Scotland Cups and one Highland League (Morganti) Cup during his Nairn County career. He has appeared 307 times for the club, scoring 28 goals. Main will celebrate his Testimonial Season during the 2018/19 campaign. Graeme Macleod
