County’s fourth pre-season friendly saw them travel to Lossiemouth United’s Phoenix Park on Tuesday evening. A first half double from Calum Mackay either side of Hamish Fraser’s goal for Lossiemouth, accompanied by goals from Jake Thomson and Ben Barron, saw Nairn lead at the break. Another goal from Thomson and a Harrison Mackenzie strike secured County’s first win of the pre-season.

Calum Mackay opened the scoring for County in the sixth minute in what would go on to be a busy first half.

Mackay found himself some space on the edge of the Lossiemouth United box and curled the opener into the bottom left corner after he controlled Ben Barron’s knockdown.

County were back on the attack minutes later when Jake Thomson and Mackay combined well down the left-hand side to work their way into the United box, but it was cleared by Andy Milton.

Thomson troubled the Lossiemouth defence once more with a low cross into the path of Barron, but Stephen Dey claimed well to scupper the Wee County’s attack.

In the 20th minute, Lee Scott played Robert Scott into a dangerous position to the left of the Nairn box for the hosts, but Trialist did well to recover and clear any danger.

County responded well as Thomson doubled the Wee County’s lead in the 21st minute; the winger was first to react to a stramash in the United box as he rolled the ball into the bottom right corner.

Barron nearly added a third moments later when his attempt rattled the crossbar from close range, but it did little more than act as a warning sign for the hosts.

However, it was the Phoenix Park who struck next.

A mix up between Tom McHale and Trialist following a cross from Brodie Christie allowed Noel Scott to win the ball for United; the striker played the ball back to Hamish Fraser who lofted the ball over McHale from 25 yards to half the deficit 24 minutes in.

Mackay restored a two-goal lead for the Wee County in the 34th minute with a well taken finish as the young winger chipped Dey from six yards.

Mackay came close to a first-half hat-trick just before the break as he weaved through the Lossiemouth United defence, but he was stopped by a recovering Finlay McKay just before he could get his shot off.

Barron’s goal came just on the stroke of half-time.

He was quickest to react to a ball fizzed across the face of goal by Thomson, as he slid in to slot the ball past Dey in the United net. (H-T 1-4.)

Thomson had a golden opportunity to double his account shortly after the break.

The winger controlled a pinpoint cross from Mackay inside of the United box, but McKay slid in to deny him the opportunity to get his shot off.

Robert Scott had a chance to half the deficit once again, but the winger lost his footing just as he was about to let fly. United threatened down the wing through second-half substitute Alex Matczak. The winger won the ball in the middle of the park and skipped past Kenny MacInnes and Thomson but was stopped by Millar Gamble with a well-timed tackle shortly after the hour mark.

Thomson added a fifth for the Wee County in the 73rd minute; the winger rose highest in the Lossiemouth box to direct the ball back across goal to the top right corner with a well-placed header.

Academy graduate Harrison Mackenzie rounded out a comprehensive performance for County in the 87th minute when he fired the ball past Dey from the edge of the United box.
