GOALKEEPER Fraser Wilkie made an impressive return to action as the North Region Juniors resumed following the Christmas break. The stopper – who is now on loan to Nairn St Ninian until the end of the season – played between the posts for Saints and kept a clean sheet as Mike Hendry’s men added another three points to their Super League tally with a 2-0 home win over Dyce at the Showfield. Wilkie made a number of key stops to keep the game goalless before former Nairn midfielder Gavin Chisholm put the hosts in front five minutes before the break. Charlie Fonweban struck late on to wrap up the points. Craig Munro and Ryan MacBean were in the Burghead Thistle starting line-up as they resumed their loans at Forest Park. Munro played 90 minutes of the Jags’ 4-2 defeat at Whitehills in the Elginshire Cup and it was a mixed day for MacBean, who found the back of the net to take his record to three goals in four Burghead appearances but was then sent off in the second half. Fellow loanee Joe Cuthbert – who will remain with Thistle until the end of the season alongside Munro and MacBean – started the match on the substitutes’ bench and appeared for the last half-an-hour. Nairn St Ninian go to Hermes this Saturday knowing that a win can take them up to third place if results elsewhere go their way while Burghead Thistle are at Fraserburgh United looking for the victory that could see them claim sixth spot and move to within just two points of their fifth-placed opponents.
