Former Scotland Schoolboys captain, Kenny MacInnes, has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

The 22-year-old midfielder has had an injury plagued time with us since joining in January 2024, requiring two surgeries to fix a bone issue on both heels. But after spending over a year on the sidelines, he made a successful return to fitness towards the end of the season and has been rewarded with a new deal.

The former Elgin City player featured in our last nine matches of the season having gone almost 17 months without making an appearance for the club. He is now eager to make up for lost time with his hometown club and manager Wayne Mackintosh is hoping to see him continue to work his way back to his best.

He said: “We had to throw Kenny in at the deep end a bit because we were short in the middle of the park for the last six weeks or so of the season. He handled it fine from a fitness perspective though and got through it without any recurrence of his injury or picking up any sorts of niggles, which will stand him in good stead moving into next season.

“Having a full pre-season under his belt this summer will do Kenny the world of good ahead of next season and we will work him to get him back to his best. It has been a frustrating time for him since he came here as he arrived injured and then had a very long time out recovering from his two operations and going through his rehab. He has had to be patient and it is difficult to come back from that sort of absence when the season is coming to an end, so hopefully after a close season break, he gets through pre-season training successfully and can hit the ground running in the new season.

“Kenny is Nairn boy and it is important for us to retain and recruit as many local players as we can, provided they can contribute to the team. We are looking forward to working with him over the next few seasons to get him back to his best.”

Kenny started his career at Inverness CT and after a short loan spell in the Highland League with Forres Mechanics in 2022, he signed for Elgin City following his release from the Caley Jags that summer. He initially joined us on loan from the Borough Briggs club in January 2023, spending the second half of the season with us before returning to the League Two club at the end of the campaign. The move was then made permanent in January 2024 and since making that full time switch two-and-a-half years ago, Kenny has made 25 appearances for us.
