THE Nairn County Fans Fund celebrates its one-year anniversary – and there are big plans in place for the money generously donated by supporters from within the local community and beyond, which will ensure the club is still able to compete in the Highland League in future years. The fund was put in place last summer to give fans the opportunity to back the new Management Committee in their efforts to take the club forward. And now cash will be released to support a vital maintenance project at Station Park. Committee member Steven Bain revealed: "The four yellow and black floodlight pylons at the park are in desperate need of refurbishment and repainting after many years of neglect. They are beginning to rust really badly, so it is imperative that we refurbish them as quickly as we can." "If the floodlights fall into a state of disrepair and are unsafe or even worse, they collapse then we would have to forfeit our SFA Club Licence. Without an SFA Club Licence, we would no longer be allowed to compete in the Highland League and therefore, there would be no club." "The money donated by the supporters means that we are able to crack on with this urgent work this summer. If we were unable to draw down from the Fans Fund then we would not have been able to proceed with this work, which would have put the future continuation of the club at risk." He added: "I cannot thank all of the supporters who have donated to the Fans Fund enough for all of their generosity. We have had people sign up from within the local area and well beyond and I can assure the fans that any donations will always be put towards the future wellbeing of Nairn County Football Club." Work on this project at Station Park will commence on Thursday June 22nd and will be concluded – weather permitting – in time for the home friendly match against St Mirren on Sunday July 2nd.
