NAIRN County Football Club were delighted to announce earlier this week that work to construct the new standing enclosure at Station Park was underway. After construction is completed, various finishing touches will have to be put in place before the enclosure can be used by supporters on matchdays. Director of Football Peter Mackintosh Jnr added: “The demolition of the old Cowshed and the clearing of the site and other prep work took place in June. “There were then holidays and other factors which meant that our main contractor – Lovies Construction – were unable to commence with the building work immediately. They came along and had a look at the site once it had been cleared and pointed out a lot of minor adjustments which we had to undertake prior to them beginning their work. This was another labour-intensive process which took a lot of time and voluntary effort. “Lovies were then able to access the site to carry out prep work of their own before beginning the construction on Monday morning. We did not want to announce that date in advance in case there were any further delays, which would have led to disappointment all round.” The club are also delighted with the excitement this news has caused among the supporters and the healthy debate it has generated surrounding the naming of the new enclosure. Mr Mackintosh said: "As has been the stated position of Nairn County Football Club since day one of this project, the club will organise, administer and verify a procedure which we hope engages as many supporters and members of the community as possible to name the new enclosure. The details of this will be revealed once the construction work is completed and the enclosure is ready for use but the club will finalise a shortlist of suggestions for the voting process. The club also reserves the right to veto any inappropriate suggestions. Mr Mackintosh added: “We look forward to hearing ideas for the shortlist from the fans, who I am sure will all have an opinion on what the enclosure should be called. “We again thank the Ground Improvements Fund and the community of Nairn for all of their hard work and contributions to this project – everyone at the club is extremely grateful.” Graeme Macleod
