With just two games remaining this season at the time of writing, I wanted to provide my final Chairman’s update of the campaign.
As this has been my first season as chairman of this wonderful club, I can honestly say it has absolutely flown by. It has brought many challenges, some expected, some less so, and others you would never anticipate in a million years, but it has also been incredibly rewarding, humbling, and a real privilege to lead Nairn County.
A very special thank you must go to the wider committee. Quite simply, without them, the club would cease to exist. Their commitment, time and effort are the backbone of everything we do.
As part of this update, I want to reflect on the season as a whole and give an insight into what we have coming up.
We have two games left to play, both at home, and I hope we can get a strong backing behind the team as we look to finish the season on a high against two sides currently above us in the league.
I would like to thank all of our supporters who have attended matches throughout the season, particularly those who have travelled to away fixtures, including our long trip to Brechin last weekend. Your support never goes unnoticed and is hugely appreciated by the players, staff and committee.
As I’ve mentioned previously, this was always intended to be a transitional season. We brought Wayne and his coaching team in with the understanding that they would be given time and backing to implement their approach and build for the future. I remain in regular communication with Toshy, and as we reflect on the season, we are already in full planning mode for next year – working through budgets and ensuring he has the support needed to progress the squad.
There have been plenty of highlights across the campaign, but also areas we know we must improve as a club. With a new committee and Board of Directors now having almost a full season of experience under our belts, that learning is invaluable. I can’t stress enough how important that will be as we continue to develop and move forward together.
Every decision we make is done with the best interests of Nairn County at heart.
At our recent AGM, Gordy Stewart and myself outlined the current position of the club and our direction of travel. A key message was the importance of fundraising events in generating vital income to support the first team and wider club activities.
Our Sporting Dinner at the start of March was a fantastic evening and the club raised a five-figure revenue on the night. Thank you to all who attended and supported the event.
We have several more events coming up:
This Sunday, we will host our first ever Community Fun Day at Station Park.
This is a free event designed to celebrate everything Nairn County Community Football represents and to welcome the town into the club. There will be football activities on the pitch, a bouncy castle, face painting, stalls, a barbeque and much more.
It all gets underway from 9am, and we hope to see as many of you there as possible.
We are reaching the end of our current two-year cycle for away and third kits.
We are also continuing to expand our range of products in the club shop available at Station Park, The Town Barbers, and online.
With new shirts and products in mind, we are having an end of season sale on our current Mikeysline Third shirt and retro football t-shirts in the club shop. Come and see Dodo in the shop at the next two games.
There is never really a quiet period when running a football club. With budgets being finalised for next season, a lot of planning is already under way, along with the usual close-season work at Station Park.
Graeme Macleod and the wider team will be organising pre-season fixtures, and we will also be working through sponsorship renewals while seeking new partners.
We are currently looking for:
If you or your business would be interested in getting involved, please get in touch.
We will also be looking to fill remaining advertising board spaces and secure match and ball sponsorships once fixtures are announced, typically towards the end of May.
Interest in our hospitality was incredibly high this season and we will be pushing to fill all the match and ball sponsorships as early as we can.
We will welcome Invergordon to the league next season. Personally, it is great to see more clubs from the Highland region in the league.
While the delay around the play-off decision was not ideal, and is something we have fed back on to the League Management Committee, we believe the correct outcome has ultimately been reached.
We also wish Brechin City all the best as they leave the league.
Season tickets will go on sale in early May. Last year, we launched our season tickets before the price increase was announced. While we will try to avoid price increases, prices will need to reflect the recent rise in entry fees set by the Highland League.
Next season, we are keen to improve our digital content output and are actively looking to recruit a volunteer videographer/content creator. If you or someone you know have skills in this area, we would love to hear from you.
You may remember that we entered a partnership with UHI to get students involved in the club and while this didn’t bear too much fruit in this area, we will be continuing to try and strengthen partnerships with other local organisations.
Thank you once again to everyone who has supported Nairn County this season whether attending matches, volunteering, sponsoring, or helping in any way behind the scenes.
We hope you all enjoy your summer. With Scotland heading to the World Cup, there will be plenty to look forward to, although we’ll no doubt be back in pre-season action before the group stage is even finished.
If you would like to stay involved with the club over the summer, whether helping with ground maintenance or general support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Hopefully see you at Station Park for our final two matches.
Kevin Reid
Chairman, Nairn County FC
