We are delighted to announce that top scorer, Ben Barron has agreed a new contract with the club.
The 21-year-old centre forward is entering his third season with us and has now committed his future to the club until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
Ben has just come off the back of a successful season with us having played the fourth highest number of minutes out of the entire squad, scoring 15 goals from 27 starts, enough to see him top our scoring chart for the second year in a row.
Manager Wayne Mackintosh was thrilled to secure the services of a player he believes there is still plenty more to come from over the forthcoming seasons.
He said: “We are all really pleased that Ben has signed a new contract with us.
“He was our top scorer again last season and although he still had a year left on his existing contract, we felt it was important for us to tie him down longer term, both for the club and for Ben as well knowing he has the security of a long term deal.
“We want Ben to continue to improve and we believe that he can become one of the top strikers in the league over a sustained period of time. People forget that he is still only 21, which is young in the context of being at the top of your game at this level. He has been around for a good number of seasons now and is building up his experience all the time. It is important that he continues to learn and develop his game and we are all looking forward to helping him along the way with that.
“He had a excellent run-in at the end of last season in terms of his performances and his overall contribution to the team. There is no doubt that he is a goalscorer and knows where the goal is and if he continues to play the way he was playing when the season ended, he will definitely improve again next season and score even more goals. That is what he has to aim for and if he is able to do it, then it will hopefully help us to win more games and improve our position next season.”
Ben joined us from Elgin City in the summer of 2024 having spent the second half of the season on loan at the club from the Borough Briggs outfit.
He scored 10 goals in 10 appearances during that loan spell and followed it up with a 19-goal haul during his first campaign with us permanently and then hit 15 over the season just finished.
During his time with Elgin City, he scored on his debut against St Johnstone and made 20 appearances for the League Two side.
Prior to that, Ben came through the youth system at Inverness CT, before joining Forres Mechanics on loan and making the move permanent in 2022, scoring 16 goals in 41 appearances in his time at Mosset Park before his move to Elgin.
