We have completed the double signing of Finn As-Chainey and Adrian Voigt, as manager Wayne Mackintosh continues to shape his squad ahead of his first season at the helm.
Both players join us from North Caledonian League side, St Duthus, on one-year deals following a successful trial period.
Finn is a 25-year-old attacking wide player who is comfortable playing on either side of the pitch. He featured as a substitute in our win at Burghead Thistle before making a goal-scoring appearance from the start in last week’s home success over Nairn St Ninian. A slight knock kept him out of yesterday’s win over Arbroath Victoria and he wasn’t risked.
Adrian is comfortable on the left side of the team and has featured at full back, centre half and on the wing during his four-match trial, featuring in wins over Lossiemouth United, Burghead Thistle and Nairn St Ninian before the 22-year-old scored the winner in yesterday’s 2-1 victory over Arbroath Victoria.
Toshy was delighted to make a double addition to his squad as he finalises his preparations for the opening day of the season next weekend.
He said: “Finn and Adrian both look like being positive additions to the squad. They have come in over the last few weeks and fitted right in and performed well.
“Everyone will have seen them in the games they have played but I have also been impressed with how they have trained. It is clear they both look after themselves, so even though they have joined us late in pre-season, getting up to speed with the rest of the squad has not been an issue for them.”
He added: “Finn has already played on both sides for us and done well. He got among the goals against Nairn St Ninian, which will do his confidence the world of good. We have quite a bit of depth to the squad where Finn plays but I think he will more than hold his own – he is a different type of player to the others we have in his position, so he will give us a different option depending on how we plan to approach each game.
“Adrian has impressed me with his performances at left back. We then tried him a bit further forward yesterday as that is where he has predominantly played in the past and he did well there too, so he can cover a couple of positions for us without being fazed.
“I am delighted that both players have chosen to join us. They were looking to step up to the Highland League and I think it will probably take them both time to get used to this level. But we will give them that time and I have no doubt they have what it takes.
“There is still room for improvement with both of them but they have a great attitude and work ethic on the training ground, so as a coaching team, we are really looking forward to working with both of them and seeing how far they can go.”
Finn joined St Duthus as a 16-year-old in 2016 having previously been in the youth ranks at Ross County. The half-Dutch winger won the Man of the Match award in the final when the Tain Saints won the North Caledonian Cup in 2018 before lifting the Football Times Cup in 2020 and again in 2022, scoring the only goal of the final success over Halkirk United.
He won the club’s Young Player of the Year award in 2018 and twice finished their top scorer, including last season. Overall, he made 128 appearances for St Duthus, scoring 43 goals.
Adrian joined St Duthus in 2021 as an 18-year-old, with the Isle of Wight native moving north having played at Portsmouth Sports College. He won the St Duthus’s Young Player of the Year prize in season 2022/23 with the half-German wide player making a total of 74 appearances and scoring 15 goals for the North Caledonian League club.
