New Manager Wayne Mackintosh has carried out his first piece of business since taking over the reins by securing last season’s Players’ Player of the Year, Andrew Greig on a new two-year deal.
The experienced winger missed the entirety of the 2023/24 campaign after requiring knee surgery but was back to his creative best upon his return last summer, weighing in with a total of 21 goal contributions during the season just gone.
That was recognised by his peers, as the 32-year-old secured the Players’ Player of the Year prize last month.
Wayne was understandably delighted to secure the services of an important and experienced member of his squad so soon after taking over as Manager. He said: “I have known Andrew for a long time having played with him here and at Formartine United before that. He has shown throughout his career in the Highland League the dangerous attacking threat he brings to teams, so we are delighted that he has agreed to extend his stay with the club.
“When I spoke to Andrew, he was really enthusiastic about the direction the club is now looking to go in the new season, which was great to hear. There are not many players about who can provide what Andrew brings to the table and most teams in the league would happily have him in their squad, so it is great news for us that he has signed up for the next couple of seasons.
“I am looking forward to working with Andrew closely over the next couple of seasons. I know what he is all about and the quality and experience he has, which is going to be important for us going into the new season.”
Andrew started his career at Inverness CT before joining Brora Rangers in 2012. While at Dudgeon Park, he won two Highland League championships, the Highland League Cup and two North of Scotland Cups as well as claiming the Highland League Player of the Year prize.
He moved on to Formartine United in November 2017, winning the Aberdeenshire Shield and Highland League Cup in his time with the Pitmedden-based club before making the switch to Station Park in January 2022. In total, he has made 77 appearances for the club including 36 last season, when his 21 goal contributions included 10 goals of his own, brought his goals tally for the club to 17.
