We’re back! Another new season is about to get underway in the Breedon Highland League and it’s a special one this year as we get ready to mark 50 years since our historic league triumph.
First up, it’s a trip to Victoria Park in Buckie as new manager Wayne Mackintosh makes his debut in the dugout against Buckie Thistle in the opening game. After retiring as a player at the end of last season he will be keen to make a big impact with hopefully three points to show for it.
The start of a new season is always an exciting one, so we’ve put together some information on what you need to know ahead of the 2025/26 campaign:
We begin away at Buckie Thistle this Saturday (July 26th, 3pm kick off) before coming home on Wednesday 30th July where we’ll welcome Deveronvale (8pm kick off) then the small matter of a rivalry game against Clachnacuddin at Station Park next Saturday (2nd August, 3pm kick off).
We have play 34 league games to play this season, playing each of the 17 other teams, home and away.
The longest we’ll travel is to Brechin City (Saturday 4th April) while the shortest trip will be to Forres Mechanics on Saturday 10th January.
You can view all our fixtures here.
We will be taking part in three cup competitions this season.
R Davidson Highland League Cup – Huntly will be the destination for our opening round Highland League Cup tie when it takes place on Saturday 8th November. We last won the Highland League Cup in the 2010/11 season.
North of Scotland Cup – Current holders Brora Rangers are up first in the North of Scotland Cup, taking place at Station Park on Wednesday 6th August (8pm kick off). Brora won the competition at Station Park when they beat Clachnacuddin in the final. Clach await the winners in round two.
Scottish Gas Scottish Cup – the big one. We start in the first round of the Scottish Cup in September and the ambition is to reach the fourth round for the first time in 69 years, where a Premiership side could be waiting for us.
Nairn County v Clachnacuddin: Saturday 2nd August
Nairn County v Forres Mechanics: Saturday 23rd August
Clachnacuddin v Nairn County: Saturday 13th December
Forres Mechanics v Nairn County: Saturday 10th January
Off the pitch, we’re delighted to have Mark Greig and Martin MacDonald as first team coaches, who will work closely with manager Wayne Mackintosh and Brian Macleod.
The club have awarded new contracts to Andrew Greig (Att), Dylan Maclean (GK), Ben Kelly (Att) as well as a longer-term deal for Calum MacKay (Mid), who did well for us at the end of last season.
We’re pleased to welcome new signings Paul Brindle (Att), who joins from Strathspey Thistle as well as Finn As-Chainey (Att) and Adrian Voigt (Def/Mid), who both signed from St Duthus.
Youth team players Ross Murphy (left back), Chevy Thomson (Att) and Charlie McKenzie (Mid) were also promoted given contracts and promoted to the first team.
We said goodbye to winger Scott Lisle, who left to pursue a move to Australia, while Ciaran Young, who was out on loan with Nairn St Ninian in the second half of last season has moved there permanently.
We wish both players well for the future.
Kenny MacInnes has had a long-term injury but is now close to first-team training.
We played six pre-season games:
Nairn County 0 – 0 Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Culloden Blacksmiths 3 – 3 Nairn County
Lossiemouth United 0 – 5 Nairn County
Burghead Thistle 0 – 2 Nairn County
Nairn County 5 – 0 Nairn St Ninian
Nairn County 2 – 1 Arbroath Victoria
New manager Wayne Mackintosh said: “I am really looking forward to the season starting and it will be a proud moment for me to take charge of the team in a competitive game for the very first time on Saturday. We know it is going to be tough with the fixtures we have in the first few weeks of the season but we will be giving it our all to be successful.”
There have been no major changes this summer however, there have been improvements to the interior of the hospitality unit, the club shop and the new fan wall is being installed.
We have launched our new 50th anniversary home shirts. We also have new golf markers and a restock of various fan wear items such as polo shirts, gilets, and jackets.
We also have a full range of fan wear available online here.
We’re delighted to have our main club and front of shirt sponsor, Murray Travel continue to partner with us for an additional three years so check them out if you are booking a holiday.
Culloden Cars have come on board with us as sponsors of the Main Stand, which will be known as the Culloden Cars Stand.
Edinburgh solicitors and estate agents Ralph Sayer have partnered with us for our Man of the Match award, golf day, and sporting dinner.
This season is significant for the club as it marks the 50th anniversary of winning the Highland League so this will enable us to undertake special initiatives to commemorate this milestone, details of which will be announced soon.
S. Owens Joinery continue as our training kit sponsor and ScotSafe as our warm-up partner.
HIS will remain on our coaches’ match kit for the season ahead.
Ardnamurchan and the Westerlea Hotel remain our hospitality partners.
For those in Nairn and close-by, coming along to Station Park and supporting the team is the obvious answer.
Purchasing a season ticket is even better. With the Highland League increasing the minimum entry price to £12 for adults and £6 for concessions, there is even more value in a season ticket this season. Adults cost £140 (five free games) and concessions are £75.
If you can’t make as many games as you would like, we have several different ways you can support us:
